This sword-and-sorcery adventure takes place in a world much like that of medieval Scotland, but one in which magic and demons have reality. The narrator is Owen Odell, a bard and magicker, who tells how an amoral thief named Jarek Mace becomes the famed warrior hero Morningstar, a man who leads a vanquished people against their oppressors. Two hundred years ago this land had been conquered by the Angostins. Fighting against this human army is not much of a problem for Morningstar and his band of rebels, but when the evil Vampire Kings of legend return and take control of the conquering army Jarek faces a foe that makes even a hero quake. |

Eons ago, humans genetically engineered a supremely aggressive race called the Phaestor to protect them from the Predator, a deadly enemy sweeping the galaxy. The Phaestor are vampires living on blood and terror. After doing the job for which they were created, the Phaestor declare themselves the master race. To help carry out their deadly rule they use terrifying sentient creatures called Moktar Dragons another genetically engineered life form but this one modeled on that nasty predatory dinosaur known as the velociraptor. On a forbidding planet in a tiny cluster outside the Milky Way, an assortment of humans and their allies are beginning to assert themselves by launching a rebellion against the vampire oppressors. There are many twists and turns to the plot, and the characters do not always act as expected. |
